NYC in December, 2023 Day 3

I met Ira, who took me out for breakfast, with this incredible herbed toast and mushrooms holy crap.  I'm so glad we are still keeping in touch.  I wore my new Dio t-shirt. He told me that Brooklyn wasn't that great, but I went.  I shopped and got my sister gifts, and got birria dumplings and it was AMAZING.  He was right, Brooklyn is probably cool, but it was kind of corporate and super gentrified.  But anywhere in Brooklyn is fucking cool. I go out for the night, take myself out on a date.

NYC in December, 2023 Day 2

Woke up way too early, none of my boutiques will open until later.  Went down the street to get Nicaraguan coffee and smashed avocado, I know is trendy but I love so much.  These guys do it to PERFECTION.  Everyone does everything to perfection. Wore my new Scorps t-shirt.  And bought an orange fur coat to match it. Shopped all day, and stopped late for a chicken salad at the most amazing little Italian restaurant.  They gave me a little tasting of cabs, so I could choose! Love NY. Went to punk bar Double Down Saloon for a glass of wine. Decided to have a chocolate chip cookie for dinner, and I just love Manhattan. I spent $40 for edible gummies (geez) and took a HUGE nap.  THEN I GOT UP TO GET READY FOR GOTH NIGHT. I WENT TO BROOKLYN to Talon Bar for SVMMON night - goth and industrial.  I was a bit intimidated, but fuck it.  The Uber was driving through a scary industrial part, but phew, it ended up being in a nice residential area. I went in, and was immediately disappointed, it was

I decided I deserved a vacation in NYC, got a hotel room at the Bowery, which is in the BEST neighborhood. We stayed down the street at the other Bowery this summer, closer to Chinatown and Little Italy - and that was awesome. This one was a tiny room, but I guess I was paying THE EXORBITANT PRICE for the neighborhood.  Right next to Orchard Street, where there are some awesome restaurants and bars.  Everything is a 5 minute walk. Wearing my Tata Christiane dress I got in Portland that I can never find an occasion to wear.  NYC is definitely a place. Got the best oysters of my life at Wildair - Meyer lemon vermouth, pickled fennel and artichoke?!? I wanted to eat at Le French Diner, but it was too tiny and packed for my taste.  I kept walking by an Italian restaurant that was adorable, so I stopped there.  It was magnificent, like everything else in NY. Started with a paloma drink, and chickpeas.  Who knew I would love every bite - olive oil, I THINK parsley, capers, and green olives.

I am 50, in NYC Part 3

Today is the most exhausting, third day of 100 degree weather, and Fizz is rumpled in our frozen air-conditioned hotel, not wanting to leave. Chris gets a bagel. Walking through Little Italy, Empire State Building in the distance. The iconic Trash and Vaudeville, where you can get punk clothes and Doc Martens. We take a break. Dinner, no make-up, full exhaustion after 10 hours of walking.
